Sunday Morning

by Sunday Records

  • Record/Vinyl

    side a
    strawberry generation - iris (eyelids)
seapony - in the bleak midwinter (remastered)

    side b
the arctic flow - for the rest of our lives (7" version)
    dayflower - sunny 19 (7" version)
the memory fades - 14 cheerleader coldfront (acoustic version, remastered)

    ********
A very special record in Sunday Records’ history that features some equally special music, Sunday Morning marks the first seven inch single the label has released in an unbelievable 25 years.

If there’s a theme the key is in the title. These are songs from the hushed and plangent side of Sunday’s world.

That doesn’t mean the five tracks are all becalmed and still. The brilliant Strawberry Generation sweep us off our feet with the wide-eyed loving rush of jangle beauty that is the intriguingly titled “Iris (Eyelids)”. One minute forty-five seconds is all it takes to transport you to another place.

One that Seapony’s “In the Bleak Midwinter” allows us to happily remain in. Early Mary Chain heartbeat drums drive us towards a spine-tingling acoustic coda that just hints, ever so slightly, towards “Love Will Tear Us Apart”.

Arctic Flow’s contribution is reliably short, sweet and gorgeous, while Dayflower aren’t afraid of slipping some disorientation into their two minutes of sweet piano reverie.

The Memory Fades delicately sing us out over the credits as the morning fades once more.

Not a second wasted or a moment without beauty - just as it should be.
